FAQ

FAQ — Czech language exam for citizenship

Anything else? Write to us.

What exactly is this exam?

The Czech language exam for the purpose of granting Czech citizenship — the language half of the "zkouška z jazyka a reálií". It is set at level B1 and has four parts: reading, listening, writing and speaking. It is run by ÚJOP, Charles University, usually on the same day as the civics (reálie) exam.

What score do I need?

At least 60 % overall and at least 60 % in each of the four parts. One written part (reading, listening or writing) may be as low as 50 %; there is no tolerance for speaking. Whoever fails retakes the whole exam, i.e. all four parts.

When and where is the exam, and what does it cost?

ÚJOP schedules sittings roughly every three weeks, always on a Saturday, in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, Olomouc, Liberec, Hradec Králové, České Budějovice and Poděbrady. The fee is CZK 3,700 for the language exam, CZK 5,700 for language and civics together. Registration is online on the ÚJOP website.

Are your tasks the real exam tasks?

No. The real exam papers are not public and nobody can offer them. Our sets are written to the exact format of the official ÚJOP model paper (task types, counts, timings, word counts) so that nothing surprises you on the day. We are not part of ÚJOP or the Ministry of the Interior.

How do you mark writing and speaking?

Writing is marked against the four official criteria (task fulfilment, organisation, vocabulary, grammar) and the same word-count rule as in the exam applies. You record speaking in your browser; you get points for each of the three tasks, for interaction and an estimate for pronunciation, with concrete feedback. The marking is done by a language model set to the official criteria — it is training, not an official result.

Is this a subscription?

No. A one-time payment of CZK 1,290 gives you unlimited, lifetime access to all parts, including the sets we add later.

I've just paid. What happens now?

After payment you set a password directly. You are redirected to the login screen and get immediate access to your personal practice area.

Can I practise on my phone?

Yes. The platform works in the browser on any device with an internet connection — no app to install. Speaking recording works on phones too.

Does this cover the civics (reálie) exam too?

Not yet — this product is the language half. Preparation for the civics exam is in the works and will also be offered as a bundle.

Ready for the Czech language exam?
